I’m a freelance graphic designer and art-director with over 10 years of experience working for clients from all over the world.
I graduated in Communication Design from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Lisbon in 2008. Fresh out of college, I applied and improved my skills in a design agency called Way, and then moved on to a design studio, Magnésio, where I was head of the design team. I then decided to make it on my own and go full-time freelance.
I know a strong brand is an holistic one, so I work on branding, print design, digital design and some webdesign, to make sure all aspects of the visual language are coherent and well thought out.
Research & Passion projects
I’ve also dedicated my time to research and self-initiated projects. My MA in Typography and Editorial Contemporary Practices resulted in a contemporary book about historic books entitled Book is a book is a book. The publication A book on books is an antecedent of my MA thesis and winner of the Young Creators Award in Graphic Design. The independent publication Rapture – the written word issue, another passion project, was presented at Experimenta Design 2011 and awarded a Jovens Criadores Award in the category of Graphic Design.
As a result of this research, I’ve published two Papers: “The importance of Design in the Contemporary book” and “Kallos graphein bacterium – bacterial calligraphy”.
My research work is now focusing on bringing together communication design and human-computer interaction in sustainability related projects in the form of a PhD in Digital Media. From this path, two published pictorial papers have emerged, one published in C&C19 and the other in DIS19.
Awards & Press
I’ve enjoyed seeing my work featured in exhibitions and publications such as the AntiDesign Festival, London, the Black and White Audiovisual Festival, in Pica Magazine, Montreal, or the Design and Design Book of the Year.
I’ve also had the pleasure of presenting my work at places like CIDAG – International Conference in design, 6et and 7et – Typography Meetings, Pecha Kucha Night, Portugal 2036 or in the TV show É a vida Alvim (link).
